Thank you to all who joined us for the highly informative letters of recommendation (LOR) workshop today! And a big thanks to our speakers! The workshop covered the topics of letter requests, content, preparation, and writing. We also briefly discussed a good book for those seeking faculty positions, The Professor is In by Karen Kelsky. For those who missed it, photos and key points are included below: Key Points:
One of my favorite professors from way back in my undergrad days has a webpage dedicated to requesting letters of recommendation (it is tailored to her students, so use it as a guide). It provides a very good framework for how to go about requesting and preparing your writer for a great letter of recommendation. I post it here as a guide - I've followed it ever since when requesting letters for graduate school, fellowships, and even for employment with very good results.
